Is Israel the greatest con artist? Or is the world governed by fools for believing a habitual liar?

Soon after the massacre of civilians abroad the Turkish aid ships destined to besieged Gaza, and due to international denunciation of Israel’s botched raid on the civilian flotillas at high seas, Western news headlines broadcasted that Israel will ease the Gaza siege. Did they?

Now, several months after the Israeli government purported intention to ease the Gaza siege, Gaza is still isolated from the international community. Israel monitors food supply allowing enough food to avoid wholesale starvation, or as Israeli officer once proclaimed "The idea is to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger."

Israel proclamation to ease the siege on Gaza was characteristic of Israeli responses to international outcry following military blunders. Whenever Israel commits a defenseless crime, it makes hollow declarations to absorb international condemnation and assuage the concerns of its friends while counting on the short term memory of the international community and on the impotency of humanitarian organizations. Here is a partial list of such events:

·         The freshest mendacity was to ease the siege on Gaza, none was done.

·         The most recent scam was to investigate the bungled military raid on the Turkish flotilla,   what has come out of it? None.

·         Prior to that was to investigate crimes by its officers in Gaza, what was the result? Officers promotion?

·         Israel investigated its massacre in Jenin camp.

·         Israel investigated its massacre in kana Lebanon

·         Israeli investigated the massacres in Sabra and Shatilla camps. The person who was investigated for those crimes, Sharon, became a prime minister twenty years later.

These are but few of Israel’s malicious operations where and in order to alleviate international condemnation and to undercut independent investigation, Israel announces its intention to “ease the siege” or investigate crimes, but the end result is always the same. Investigate until the international outcry dies out, and then people forget.

Just like negotiation with the Palestinians while building illegal settlements, expropriating Palestinian land, maintaining a siege famishing 1.5 million human beings while fooling successfully an international community which reacts to current news, but soon forgets.
